PARTICIPATION RULES:
You must be registered as a member of Bookobserver.org website.
Book Lovers participating in the program should use the same account name they have on Amazon or other book retailers websites when building their profile on our website. Doing this makes identifying your book review more simple.
You must join and follow our Book Observer reddit page.
Select and purchase the book from the list. Read the book and write your book review. Submit your book review to the book retailer website that you purchased the book from.
You must send us an image of your receipt no later than 3 days after purchasing the book. Please note, failure to do this step will void your earning points for that book.
Notify us via email after your book review is showing on the book retailers website. We may verify your book review as showing verified twice. Once shortly after your notifying us of your posted book review and again 4 – 5 weeks later.
After you have earned enough points for the gift card reward you want, you will submit a request to cash in your points. We will verify the purchase of each book by reviewing each book review on the book retailer website.
Q&A
Q. How long do the points last?
A. All points expire 18 months after your purchase if not cashed in.
Q. I am trying to save my points for the $25.00 gift card but some of them may expire before I get there.?
A. If you are just a few points shy of your goal, contact us and we might be able to extend the expiration date 30 days. This is done on a case by case basis and is not a guarantee that we will be able to extend the expiration date. If we are unable to extend the date you may have to cash your points in for the smaller card.
Q. What brands of gift cards can we get?
A. Apple, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, This list will be updated as we grow.
Q. What dollar value cards do you offer?
A. Save 7,500 Points to receive a $10.00 Gift Card
-or save
15,000 Points to receive a $25.00 Gift Card
Q. If I cash in my points for a $10.00 gift card, do those same points roll over for the $25.00 gift card?
A. No. Once you cash in your points you have to start over again.
Q. How do you send us the gift card?
A. We’ve had issues sending items through the mail in the past so we have switched to e-gift cards. They will be emailed to the email address we have on file for you.
Q. Why do we have to send you an image of our receipt three days after we purchase the book?
A. We need you to send us an image of your receipt no later than three days after your purchasing the book. This lets us know when you purchased the book and we can verify the dates.
Q. How long does the book review that we write have to be?
A. Just a few sentences will do. Your review does not have to be a good review. Just be honest.
Q. What if we already read the book prior to it being on the list. Can we get credit for it?
A. No. The date you purchase the book must be while the book is announced on our website and before the end date. Not before and not after it has been removd. Meaning: Say you purchased the book on June 14th, but we didn’t announce the book being in our program until June 26th. That purchase does not count towards the rewards program.
Q. Why do you check our book review twice?
A. We check your book review for Verified Purchase twice to ensure that the book wasn’t purchased, quickly read, and then returned for a refund. Your book review must show Verified Purchase or that book retailers version of Verified Purchase both times we check it for you to receive your points.
Q. Where does the funding come from for this program?
A. The majority of the funds for this program comes from our authors purchasing book review packages and advertising for their books. All of our book review packages and some of our advertising include a point value at no additional cost to our authors. The Authors can also purchase points or additional advertising that will give their book more point value. We also receive some funding for this program by our book lovers utilizing the links we provide to purchase their books or other services.
Q. I am an author and I was trying to order the advertising that comes with the free points, but cannot find it on the order form?
A. When placing your advertising order and wanting to take advantage of the free points do not use any coupon codes nor make a donation for discounted pricing at the time of placing this order. These types of discounts eat up funds that would be used to fund this program. Do not add any Book Lovers Points to your order. Select 30 or more days on what advertising you want, and click none to the rest. Click on our agreements and you should see that your order qualifies you for the free points at the bottom of the order form.
Q. I am an author and I have a coupon code. Why can’t I order the rewards points program?
A. If you have and are wanting to use a coupon code to place an advertising order including rewards points you must order additional advertising for the rewards points to show up on the order form. We are sorry but these types of discounts eat up any funds that would be used to fund our Readers Rewards Program. The additional advertising requirements helps cover the funds needed to pay rewards to your fans.
Q. What is the highest number of points that a book can have?
A. Each book can earn a max of 300 points. The books will display their point value in their announcement on the home page. The reader will receive the points If the book is purchased while listed on the home page before the end date for that book.
Q. Why are some books still showing on the home page past their end date of points?
A. This could be for several reasons. Some packages have longer times on the home page than what the author elected points for. It could also be that we had not been able to devote the time to removing the book from the home page yet. Either way, pay attention to the end date when wanting to purchase a book for the points. Make sure to purchase the book prior to the end date if you are wanting the points.
Q. I am an author and my books points are about to expire. Is there a way I can extend it or push out the expiration date?
A. Yes. Please use the Authors Contact form and select Book Lovers Rewards Question as the reason for contact and send us an email requesting to extend your book. Make sure to list the book title and the date that it will expire. Please try and give us at least 5 days advance notice on these requests.
Q. What if Amazon won’t post my book review?
A. (This response was copied directly from a Google search of this issue.) If Amazon won’t post your review, it’s likely because your review violated their Community Guidelines, which could include things like containing personal attacks, being excessively promotional, discussing pricing, or not being based on a verified purchase; in this case, you should check your review for any potential issues and revise if needed; if you believe your review is compliant, contact Amazon customer service to inquire about the reason for the hold and see if there’s a way to resolve it.
We do apologize if you are having issues with Amazon not posting your book review. However, we need to verify your purchase of the book using your book review and we cannot intervene with this situation.
Q. Is there a minimum amount of time that has to pass from the date we purchase the book till when we can post our review of the book?
A. No. Some people are very fast readers and some like to take their time. However, if you purchase a book like Shogun, it maybe a bit suspicious if you post your review of the book the next day. Just keep in mind that once you notify us that your book review is posted that it may be checked two different times.
Q. I am a bookobserver book reviewer. Can I participate in this program?
A. Yes, with some restrictions. You cannot review your own book and you must be able to give an unbiased review of the book that you are considering purchasing for the program.
Q. I received an email saying that I was denied points for my book review?
A. The email you received should explain what the issue is. Some of the most common issues are listed below.
– We were unable to locate your book review. (This often happens on some book retailer sites when a book is purchased and returned for a refund.) They may remove your book review.
– You book review does not show verified purchase or the online book retailers version of verified purchase.
– The website your book review was located on does not support any form of verified purchase or was not a book retailer website.
– You failed to send us an image of the receipt of your book purchase within three days of purchase.
– The image of the receipt you sent was illegible. (All details on your receipt must be legible.)
– The website your book review was posted on does not match the receipt you initially sent to us.
– The date you purchased the book was after the end date for that book on our Book Lovers Rewards list.
– We could not verify the screen name of the author of the review was actually you.
We will continue to update this Q&A as we get more questions.
