Have you ever received a book review from someone and after reading it you had to wonder if the book reviewer actually read your book? If so, your not alone.
Hi. My name is Ted and I am a writer for The Book Observer. A 501c3 non profit organization that addresses the “Need to Read” by offering free book reviews, affordable advertising and other services to aspiring authors.
We have seen the above scenario numerous times and have found a way to combat it with our wonderful little hidden gems.
Imagine you are a book reviewer and read the below paragraph.
John was tired. He had an extremely long day at the shop. It was one problem car after another. This ones windshield wipers quit working and this ones rear brakes squeals while going down the road. He heard it all today. And what made it even worse was that many of the issues were supposed to have already been fixed by the new mechanic Dave. Whom just happened to call out sick today.
Now read the revamped version of the same paragraph with our little hidden gem inserted into it below.
John was tired. He had an extremely long day at the shop. It was one problem car after another. This ones windshield wipers quit working and this ones rear brakes squeals while going down the road. He heard it all today. Ms. Piggy fell off her stool. And what made it even worse was that many of the issues were supposed to have already been fixed by the new mechanic Dave. Whom just happened to call out sick today.
Did you find our little hidden gem? Now imagine submitting your book for a review and the organization inserts several of these little hidden gems through out your book before forwarding it to the book reviewer. The book reviewer won’t know what they are, where they are nor how many there are. All the book reviewer would know is to document each error that is found while reading your book and send us the list prior to writing your book review.
Once the book reviewer completes the book and submits the list of documented errors, we remove our hidden gems from the list so that they will not be mentioned in your book review. If all of the hidden gems are listed, we know that the book reviewer did read the book. If any of our hidden gems are missed we know we have a situation and we handle those as they arise.
Another little tidbit about our hidden gems. Once our hidden gems are inserted into the book they become top secret. The authors are not given that information, nor are the confidential reviewers. No one knows of the hidden gems except the manager that inserts them. With our doing this the hidden gems remain top secret. Our doing this ensures that the hidden gem information is not leaked to the book reviewer. However, the author can request a list of the hidden gems used after the book review is accepted.
